Depending on your time zone, the Blood Moon will occur tonight in every U.S. state and other parts of the Western Hemisphere.
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, Earth and the moon align in roughly a straight line, with Earth in the middle.
The eclipse reaches totality as the full moon moves into the darkest part of Earth's shadow, called the umbra.
People on the West Coast will see this week's total lunar eclipse beginning at 11:26 p.m., while those on the East Coast will see it at 2:26 a.m. Friday morning.
